Once upon a time, an artist and a designer stumbled upon a factory space in Oregon - halfway between Portland and San Francisco. The couple, Dawne Klinger and Mark Stella saw a chance for a unique business model, combining natural materials, high quality-small run production and developing strong relationships with customers.
The pair quickly set upon developing new products, growing manufacturing capacity and collaborating with craftspeople who shared both their aesthetic and business vision.
After much national and international success, they expanded into a new showroom, 5 miles from the factory studio right in the heart of downtown Ashland, home of the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Theater.
Along the way, they've gained scores of fans as their products found their way into hotels, restaurants and homes worldwide.
Mark has worked as a product designer in New York, Boston and Portland for Fortune 100 clients around the globe. After a stint helping to develop an environmental education center in the old growth forests of Oregon's Cascade Mountains, he started Green Mountain to encourage sustainable forestry in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Dawne's experience in ceramics began when she accidentally stumbled into a pottery class in high school. A pursuit of psychology eventually gave way to her first love of art and inevitably a Bachelors Degree from the University of Arizona.
Having traveled extensively, they decided to settle in the beautiful agricultural Rogue River Valley- nestled between the lush Cascade Range and the Siskiyou Mountains of Northern California. Two hours from the Lost Redwood Coast but only a short hop to either Portland or San Francisco.
The studio continues to work with architects and designers around the country on custom projects that require the tightest tolerances and the greatest attention to detail without losing the spirit of the raw natural materials they specialize in.
The little Ashland boutique has quickly become a local favorite- the best place to discover a fresh gift that speaks of the great Northwest whether a thank you to a trusted teacher or a housewarming for a young couple. Nest is known for its simplicity and elegance, a must stop when relatives come to town or friends visit.
"Tagliaferro's attention to detail, from the soft folled edges to the care in which every shipment has been packaged shows Dawne's artist hand at every turn.
Color and texture are a delight and her mastery of the ceramic arts continues to develop with every kiln run."
